The more you read, the more you'll know


This cartoon was created in honor of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Day, which celebrates the poet/writer and his quirky works which for generations have encouraged children to read. It was published with the editorial "Celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday by reading for fun," which was printed in the  March 3 print edition of The Mercury.

School funding gamble


It seems everyone gives a different story on state funding for school districts. This cartoon originally ran with the editorial "State funding is mixed bag for Pa. schools," which ran in the Feb. 17 print edition of The Mercury.

After two years in office, many are wondering when Gov. Tom Corbett will come through on his election promises. This cartoon accompanied the editorial "Two years in, Gov. Corbett gets a wakeup call," which was published in the Feb. 3 print edition of The Mercury.

Hidden Hazards


Pennsylvania's old towns may be quaint, but they can also be problematic. With so much aging infrastructure and shrinking resources to fix it, many of these problems are ignored until they become serious issues. This cartoon originally ran with the editorial "Aging pipes, streets, bridges plague Pa. towns" published in the Jan. 20 print edition of The Mercury.

Booming fight over Marcellus Shale

Issues surrounding the Marcellus Shale drilling have gotten little interest from area residents until they found out a natural gas pipeline to carry the products across Berks and Chester counties might be built in their backyards and through popular park lands. This cartoon accompanied the editorial "Gas pipelines are coming, questions needed" in the Jan. 6 print edition of The Mercury.

The Giving Spirit

The Mercury is once again raising money for its annual Operation Holiday effort. Each year The Mercury helps hundreds of families in the immediate area have a good holiday, giving them food for several meals and gift cards to buy Christmas presents for their children.
